CCAA Mistlin Gallery Member Meeting on Monday

The Central California Art Association Members' Meeting is Monday, February 13 at 6:00 p.m. for social and 6:15 p.m. for the member meeting at Mistlin Gallery. Jack McBride's photos of Art in the Garden and Richard Anderson's video will be viewed. Richard will provide us with a demonstration on how to use the projector. The Spring Show prospectus will be available. Enter Mistlin Gallery from the street at 1015 J Street, Modesto. 209-529-3369.

CCAA Young Masters Committee is requesting CCAA members to bring cookies to the Mistlin Gallery on Friday, February 10 and place them in the refrig for anticipated millions of young mouths on Saturday the 11th. Please place your name of the package so we know to whom to thank. Money gifts for the food will be greatly appreciated, too.

We also would like people to volunteer to help during the reception 1-4 p.m.   See Nancy Bassitt or Chella on what to do. We need people to help with clean up from 4- 5:30 p.m., too. To the newest members!!! I know that the CCAA members are great helpers - they always step up and help.!! A BIG THANK YOU AHEAD OF TIME.

DOCENTS AND POTENTIAL DOCENTS:   Our Gallery is holding a Docent Training on Saturday, February 18, 2012. This is to be held at the gallery from 10 am to 3 pm. Lunch will be provided and we have several interesting speakers on various subjects. This is your opportunity to update on new procedures (if you are a current docent) and take a look if you are an interested docent. Either way, you will meet some fantastic people and see some fantastic art. Please join us - RSVP before 2-15-12.

The Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery is requesting submissions for the 59th Annual Spring Art Show. There is a $500 Best of Show Award, along with several other place and merchandise awards.   JPEG files on CD are due along with the entry form on Saturday March 17. The jurors are Anita Wolff and Sharon Galligan. Awards judge is Debra Lehane. Receiving art work will be Friday and Saturday April 27 and 28. The Grand Opening Gala is Saturday, May 5 and tickets are $20.   The Show is free to the public from May 8 to July 14. Amgen Tour of California seeks entries for jersey design

Organizers of the Amgen Tour of California invite artists to design a jersey that will be presented each day to the Breakaway From Cancer Most Courageous Rider award winner.

The bicycle race will take place May 13-20 and includes a stage from Sonora to Clovis. For the first time in four years, Modesto will not be part of the race.

The winning artist will receive a trip for two to any host city and will present the jersey after that stage.

Entries can be submitted until Jan. 31 at www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/bfc-contest.

Memorial Medical Center Presents Cancer Services Art Exhibit

The Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery is hosting Memorial Medical Center's Complementary Therapy Art Exhibit, "Of Spirals, Twists and Turns." The exhibit runs October 18 to November 10, with the public reception October 20 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. during Third Thursday Art Walk. Cris Ewell is the instructor and show curator. Mistlin Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday noon to 4:00 p.m. Mistlin Gallery is located at 1015 J Street, Modesto, 529-3369.

Memorial Medical Center's Art Group is designed to teach participants to unlock their emotions and ideas, and bring clarity and definition to life experiences by expressing themselves through art. The classes are open to cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Complementary therapies are those that can be used along with conventional medicine therapies that have been proven to be safe and effective. While complementary therapies are not used to cure disease, many of them have been shown to help relieve patients' symptoms and improve the quality of their lives by minimizing the side effects of conventional treatments or by providing psychological and physical benefits.

Art in the Garden Tour Sept. 24

Sponsored by Central California Art Association

Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery is hosting a fundraising tour, "Art in the Garden," on Saturday September 24 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The tour includes seven gardens in the La Loma and Graceada Park area along with Mistlin Gallery and Queen Bean in downtown Modesto. Forty artists ranging from painters, photographers, jewelers and sculptors, will be demonstrating and selling their art.  Refreshments and music are provided at locations in the self-guided tour.  Gloria Scott Band will play from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at a tour spot.  A donation of $20 provides a map of the tour and is available at Mistlin Gallery, 1015 J Street, Modesto, phone toll free 888-236-2523 for information. Henrietta has tickets to sell, call her at 521-8336. Scenic, Morris and West Turf  Nurseries also have tour maps.

The Mistlin Galley will host the Mistlin Gallery Photography show exhibiting regional photo clubs. Modesto Camera Club, Sonora Photo Club, Photo Journey, Merced Camera Club and CCAA members will exhibit a range of work from fine art photographic prints to computer generated images. The reception is Third Thursday Art Walk, Sept. 15 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Refreshments and music are provided free to the public. Mistlin Gallery is at 1015 J Street, Modesto, 529-3369. This year's Mistlin Gallery Photography Show will debut twenty-five photographers new to the Mistlin Gallery. Hello: This weekend The Central California Art Association and Mistlin Gallery presents the 58th Annual Spring Art Show with Gala Reception on Saturday night June 11th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. It is a fundraiser event with The Gloria Scott Band playing, with special guest Eric Benson on keyboards, plenty of food and wine for a donation of 20 dollars to CCAA. Gloria is a wonderful seasoned Jazz and Rhythm & Blues singer who sang with Sly & The Family Stone in the 1970's and was produced by Barry White. Please come down and enjoy a great night of music and entertainment for a great cause. Tickets available in advance at the Gallery or at the door. The new art exhibit will be featured on display at Mistlin Gallery located at 1015 J Street in downtown Modesto. Questions call the Gallery at (209) 529-3369.

And this Monday June 13th's Blue Monday at Jax on H street features the Johnny Valdez & Straight Ahead Band with special guest John Stowell on Jazz guitar. The band starts at 7:00 PM and goes till 10:30. Jax is located at 1016 H street in downtown Modesto with full bar and food available in an all age environment. A special Master class guitar clinic with John Stowell will be at Gottschalks Masic this Monday from 3:00-5:00 PM. Cost of the clinic is 20 dollars. Call to Artists for Home for the Holiday Members' Show

Central California Art Association is accepting applications for Home for the Holidays Members' Show running November 26 to January 13. There is a Mistlin Gallery Arts & Craft Fair Saturday November 27 from noon to 9:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 11 from noon to 4:00 p.m. New artists submit the prospectus and fee for jurying by November 11. Returning exhibitors submit prospectus and fee to reserve space by November 12 on a first come, first serve basis. Show set up is Monday, November 22 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.and Tuesday November 23 from 11:30 to 5:00 p.m. Grids are assigned by a drawing on hanging day. Artists must provide their own title cards listing title, artist name, media, artist number and price. The gallery computer has a label template that artists may use. Artists must hang their own work and provide any special installation material. Artists who docent twice a month on a regular basis will have a 25% commission rather than the usual 40%. Anna Barber - KVIE Art Auction!

Anna Barber submitted a framed "artist proof" of "Golden Gate Sunset" to station KVIE in Sacramento for their various Art auctions and fund raisers .... the art donations are juried and judges select works that they think will sell, etc .... and select a few for their LIVE, ON AIR ART AUCTION on the local PBS channel .... and Anna's was selected for the ON AIR AUCTION ! The piece will be shown on the air on September 25th between 3:30 and 4:00 pm.

p.s. a large print of this piece is also currently on display at The Photographers' Gallery [13th & J] for another couple of weeks or so.

August Plein Air Painting and Ceramic Show at Mistlin Gallery

The Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery is hosting The Valley Sun Catchers and The San Joaquin Potters Guild art show from August 3 to September 4. The Valley Sun Catcher "Plein Air Paintings" reception is Thursday, August 19 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The San Joaquin Pottery Guild "Hands In Clay" reception and Award Ceremony is Saturday, September 4 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mistlin Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday noon to 4:00 p.m. Mistlin Gallery is at 1015 J Street, Modesto, 529-3369 www.ccartassn.org.

The Valley Sun Catchers (VSC) plein air painting group was formed in September 2000 as part of the Central California Art Association at The Mistlin Gallery in Modesto. Their purpose is to improve the artists' observations of nature while painting in outdoor locations. The group of sixty-five members paints at local sites and takes field trips to the mountains and the coast. Chella, founder of VCS, has been Artist-in-Residence in Yosemite National Park, and other members have exhibited in the Yosemite Renaissance Art Exhibitions and Cal Expo. VCS has sponsored on-location workshops and nine annual plein air group shows.

The San Joaquin Potters Guild is hosting "Hands in Clay 2010, " the second annual show judged by ceramic artist Tony Natsoulas, who is known for large-scale humorous, figurative ceramic sculpture. There will be a workshop demonstration Saturday, September 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with Tony Natsoulas "Ceramic Sculpture," Rick Uebner "Throwing Large," and Don Hall "Silk Screen on a Clay Box." Registration and fee at www.sanjoaquinpottersguild.org. CCAA members are $35 before Aug. 1 and $45 after Aug. 1.

Dear Artists!

We are inviting you to participate in the 3rd Annual SubZERO Festival—a diy, artistically bent, hi/lo-techno mashup where street meets geek!

This is a yearly celebration of the sub / counter / alternative & creative culture that thrives here and the artists that move the culture forward. Our credo is "All Hail The Progenitors of Culture!" and this includes you!

This year we have excellent exciting projects lined up: a mobile puppet theater, a Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School tent, an 18' long Art Ark, Belly Dancers, an urban photo booth, a yarn bombing crew, a karaoke ice cream truck, local record label booth, lowrider bikes, SLG comic booth, indie artists, great music on the stage and lots more in the works!

The SubZERO Festival is First Friday June 4th, 6pm - midnight. (It's out on the street on South First Street, 3 full blocks from San Carlos - Reed streets.) The first year drew a crowd of 7000 and last year was 10,000 - we believe this year will be the same if not more.

In addition to SubZERO Festival, we will also be doing the Anno Domini STREET MRKT urban fair on First Fridays August 6 and September 3rd. This is an event designed to give local artists a presence and opportunity to share & sell their work with hundreds of First Friday art walk patrons in a fun festival-like atmosphere. Since STREET MRKT is only on 1 block of the SoFA District (in front of Anno Domini gallery), space is limited.

Because you are on our Phantom Galleries network, you are receiving first option to secure a space at these events as a selling vendor. (This can include art, jewelry, crafts, fashion, hi-tech, lo-tech, organization promotion, etc.)

Each vendor will receive a 10' x 10' space. You will need to bring everything necessary to exhibit & sell your work. Canopies, table/chair are available for rent for a fee, please inquire.

Artists that sign up for all three events (June, Aug & Sept) get first option to pick their desired placement.

Cost:
June 4th SubZERO Festival only: $75.

Aug 6th, Sept 3rd STREET MRKTS: $35. each month

June, Aug., Sept events PKG DEAL: $100.00/total

No sales commissions will be imposed at any of these events.
However, should you need the use of our Visa/MC machine in the A.D. gallery store, there will be a 5% charge for the service. (that's to cover what the bank charges us.)

We encourage live painting, demos and even performances at your booth to engage the audience's interest in your work.

Scholarships for Nonprofits to Great Valley Center Conference

Each year our biggest event is the Annual Conference. The past twelve conferences have been in Sacramento. We are excited to be at the Gallo Center in Modesto this year.on May 6^th and 7^th. You may have heard about it, but felt you didn't have the funds to attend. We are offering a limited number of scholarships for nonprofit leaders.

Just briefly:

The theme this year is Valley Up—Ideas, Innovation, Inspiration. The goal will be to not only inform about some of the challenges the region is facing, but to lift up hopes and inspire with new ideas of what is working in the Central Valley. There will be many ideas relevant to our work as nonprofits.

On Thursday, May 6th

We will start the day with the colorful world of Paul Buxman, our very own Valley Farmer, Artist, nationally known painter who is inspirational in his approach. So much so that he has been the subject of many documentaries from National Geographic, PBS, 60 Minutes, Canadian and Australian Broadcasting and California Heartland. Paul will be followed by a panel of emerging leaders, young electeds, new to elected office who will talk about their vision for the future and how they plan on getting there.

Luis Santana, 'Reading and Beyond', winner of the James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award, who has been shaped by his work with street kids in Brazil and Columbia—tells how to shape a child's path to a brighter future through reading. Luis will be followed by a panel on steps to increase our college bound rates. Attendees have a choice of break out sessions in the afternoon including a panel on 'It takes a Region, Innovations in Movement for Youth and Community Well-Being". "The Long Tail of the Blueprint", a first and a "land use for our region" success story in progress; "Innovations in Waste Water"; Breathe Easier with experts from the air districts; A panel talking about beautiful old buildings in the Valley—making them beautiful again!; and Urban Forest-tree—Using trees to make our towns prettier and healthier too.

On Friday, May 7^th

We will start the day with Modesto's own Passionate Poet, Sam Pierstorff.

He will be followed by Lynda Resnick, (http://www.rubiesintheorchard.com/), the strategic marketing driver behind Pom Wonderful. That will be followed by a panel of guests who have 'reinvented' Central Valley products to succeed in today's global economy.

Diane Smith will talk about our "mobile future", wireless and the newest cutting edge technology soon to be at our fingertips. Panama Bartholomy, California Energy Commission, will tell us "What's up with Green"---green buildings, renewable energy, climate change, to driving a biodiesel powered car.

Both days will be filled with fun, good food, interactive activities, music, and opportunities to share and network.

WORKS Auction 2010_Call for Art

Works/San Jose, your community art and performance center, is asking for your art to be the focus of the 2010 benefit auction! This will be the most important auction ever for Works, and your commitment and most inspired artwork are needed now to move works into the future.

Works is an all-volunteer art space where programming is driven by community proposals, and all funding is from individual support like yours.

Thank you to all those helping with the process of receiving and to the Jury. The entries have been received and reviewed by the Jury. Artists should be receiving by mail acceptance-notifications.

RECEIVING OF ACCEPTED WORK…
Receiving of accepted work will be at the CCAA Mistlin Gallery on Friday, April 30, 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 1,noon-4 p.m . Accepted artwork must be presented in a professional manner. Poorly presented work will not be displayed. Entries must be hand delivered. Artwork must match the images that have been judged. All accepted paintings must have screw eyes & have wire ends taped. No wet paintings, no "fast frames" and no sawtooth hangers will be accepted. No artwork that has been entered & accepted may be removed before the close of the show. Electronic works, installation works, or any piece requiring special installment, must be set up by the artist. Entry fees will not be refunded. Parking is available in the garage at 11th & K Streets; the Gallery will validate your parking garage ticket.

hello all: Tonight Blue Monday brings in the Valley Rhythm Section with vocalist Tanya Sweet from the downbeat at 7:00 till 10:30. The band features best of seasoned Rhythm & Blues musician playing Motown, Old School, Funk and Rhythm & Blues. Please continue to support live music in the downtown. Clayton's Restaurant if located behind the Gallo Arts Center downtown Modeto, 1016 H. street. The music starts at 7:00 PM, with jam 8:15, house band with dance music 9:30. Clayton's Restaurant has out door patio seating, food and bar, all age venue.

May 3rd: Steve Cerillo's Birthday bash with Beatles Tribute Band Elementary Penguin hosting the jam. The cover band features Joe Barretta on guitar and vocals,Tim Allen on piano and vocals, and Steve Cerillo on bass and vocals.

May 31st: Modesto's own Steely Dan tribute band Kid Chralemagne, 12 piece's plays the music of Steely Dan with show at 7:00 with suggeted cover charge 10 dollars. One of my favorite tribute bands with Johnny Valdez on guitar, Dave Hawks on drums, full horn section and 3 vocalists!

Had to pass on Mike Wolffe, Jazz pianist this time around as he has a rehearsal on the date requested for Blue Monday. We set a tentative date in September when he is back through here.
