Christmas Open house 2012

CCAA Mistlin Gallery Member Meeting on Monday
CCAA Young Masters Committee is requesting CCAA members to bring cookies to the Mistlin Gallery on Friday, February 10 and place them in the refrig for anticipated millions of young mouths on Saturday the 11th. Please place your name of the package so we know to whom to thank. Money gifts for the food will be greatly appreciated, too.
We also would like people to volunteer to help during the reception 1-4 p.m. See Nancy Bassitt or Chella on what to do. We need people to help with clean up from 4- 5:30 p.m., too. To the newest members!!! I know that the CCAA members are great helpers - they always step up and help.!! A BIG THANK YOU AHEAD OF TIME.
DOCENTS AND POTENTIAL DOCENTS: Our Gallery is holding a Docent Training on Saturday, February 18, 2012. This is to be held at the gallery from 10 am to 3 pm. Lunch will be provided and we have several interesting speakers on various subjects. This is your opportunity to update on new procedures (if you are a current docent) and take a look if you are an interested docent. Either way, you will meet some fantastic people and see some fantastic art. Please join us - RSVP before 2-15-12.

The Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery is requesting submissions for the 59th Annual Spring Art Show. There is a $500 Best of Show Award, along with several other place and merchandise awards. JPEG files on CD are due along with the entry form on Saturday March 17. The jurors are Anita Wolff and Sharon Galligan. Awards judge is Debra Lehane. Receiving art work will be Friday and Saturday April 27 and 28. The Grand Opening Gala is Saturday, May 5 and tickets are $20. The Show is free to the public from May 8 to July 14. Organizers of the Amgen Tour of California invite artists to design a jersey that will be presented each day to the Breakaway From Cancer Most Courageous Rider award winner.
The bicycle race will take place May 13-20 and includes a stage from Sonora to Clovis. For the first time in four years, Modesto will not be part of the race.
The winning artist will receive a trip for two to any host city and will present the jersey after that stage.
Entries can be submitted until Jan. 31 at www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/bfc-contest.

Memorial Medical Center Presents Cancer Services Art Exhibit
The Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery is hosting Memorial Medical Center's Complementary Therapy Art Exhibit, "Of Spirals, Twists and Turns." The exhibit runs October 18 to November 10, with the public reception October 20 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. during Third Thursday Art Walk. Cris Ewell is the instructor and show curator. Mistlin Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday noon to 4:00 p.m. Mistlin Gallery is located at 1015 J Street, Modesto, 529-3369.
Memorial Medical Center's Art Group is designed to teach participants to unlock their emotions and ideas, and bring clarity and definition to life experiences by expressing themselves through art. The classes are open to cancer survivors and their caregivers.
Complementary therapies are those that can be used along with conventional medicine therapies that have been proven to be safe and effective. While complementary therapies are not used to cure disease, many of them have been shown to help relieve patients' symptoms and improve the quality of their lives by minimizing the side effects of conventional treatments or by providing psychological and physical benefits.

Art in the Garden Tour Sept. 24Sponsored by Central California Art Association
Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery is hosting a fundraising tour, "Art in the Garden," on Saturday September 24 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The tour includes seven gardens in the La Loma and Graceada Park area along with Mistlin Gallery and Queen Bean in downtown Modesto. Forty artists ranging from painters, photographers, jewelers and sculptors, will be demonstrating and selling their art. Refreshments and music are provided at locations in the self-guided tour. Gloria Scott Band will play from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at a tour spot. A donation of $20 provides a map of the tour and is available at Mistlin Gallery, 1015 J Street, Modesto, phone toll free 888-236-2523 for information. Henrietta has tickets to sell, call her at 521-8336. Scenic, Morris and West Turf Nurseries also have tour maps.

The Mistlin Galley will host the Mistlin Gallery Photography show exhibiting regional photo clubs. Modesto Camera Club, Sonora Photo Club, Photo Journey, Merced Camera Club and CCAA members will exhibit a range of work from fine art photographic prints to computer generated images. The reception is Third Thursday Art Walk, Sept. 15 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Refreshments and music are provided free to the public. Mistlin Gallery is at 1015 J Street, Modesto, 529-3369. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday 11:30 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
This year's Mistlin Gallery Photography Show will debut twenty-five photographers new to the Mistlin Gallery. Photo Journey photographers display photographs of world travel and local events in and around Stanislaus County. Ten members of the Sonora Photo Club will show work from the foothills. CCAA members exhibiting are Karleen Ashby, Anna Barber, Bill Harris, Crystal Klingelsmith, Larry Lew, David Schroeder and Dennis Wister.The CCAA is a 501(c) non-profit organization with the mission to promote visual excellence, provide art education, and provide cultural opportunities to the community.

Call to Artists for Home for the Holiday Members' Show
Central California Art Association is accepting applications for Home for the Holidays Members' Show running November 26 to January 13. There is a Mistlin Gallery Arts & Craft Fair Saturday November 27 from noon to 9:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 11 from noon to 4:00 p.m. New artists submit the prospectus and fee for jurying by November 11. Returning exhibitors submit prospectus and fee to reserve space by November 12 on a first come, first serve basis. Show set up is Monday, November 22 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.and Tuesday November 23 from 11:30 to 5:00 p.m. Grids are assigned by a drawing on hanging day. Artists must provide their own title cards listing title, artist name, media, artist number and price. The gallery computer has a label template that artists may use. Artists must hang their own work and provide any special installation material. Artists who docent twice a month on a regular basis will have a 25% commission rather than the usual 40%. The "social experiment" continues on the evening of Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the beautiful Mistlin Gallery in downtown Modesto. The Mistlin is a premier art space. On behalf of all three of the (bureaucrat) artists, we are very excited to share our personal works (as filtered through a public sector lens).
A fund raiser social featuring the art works of:
County Supervisor Dick Monteith, Modesto City Councilmember Brad Hawn and County Executive Keith Boggs. All roceeds to benefit the Center for Human Services.
