Adult Art Classes at the MISTLIN GALLERY

Oil Painting Class

When: March 4 - April 22, Thursdays, 1pm – 4pm. Where: Senior Citizens Center. Description: Create lasting works of art as you learn the skills and techniques of color and composition through oil painting. All skill levels welcome. Supplies needed prior to the start of class. Call (209) 577-5344 for supply list. Supply costs: $100 - $150. 6 sessions/$40 (No class Mar. 11 or April 8) Course taught in partnership with Modesto City Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods. Faux Finishing Class

When: Sat, March 13, 9am. Where: Mistlin Gallery. Description: Basics of faux finishing including glazes on smooth and textured surfaces, how to simulate antique verde marble,crackle finish, and a two colors of paint finish. Written instructions are provided for each technique learned. This is a completely hands on class. $80 with a $5 materials fee.

Ukrainian Egg Dying Class

When: Sat, March 20, 10am – 12pm or Sat, March 20, 1pm – 3pm or Sat, March 27, 10am – 12pm or Sat, March 27, 1pm – 3pm. Where: Mistlin Gallery. Description: Ukrainian Egg Dying (just in time for Easter) All ages welcome (students under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult) Caution: involves open flame, melting wax, sharp metal tipped utensils. $12.50 per person for 2 hour session. All supplies included. Students are welcome to attend two sessions for $25.

Watercolor Class

When Sat, April 10– Sun, April 11, 9:30am - 4:30pm. Where: Mistlin Gallery. Description: Shirley Green, artist/teacher

Beginning Drawing Class

When Thu, April 15, 6pm – 9pm Or Thursday, July 15, 6pm – 9pm. Where Mistlin Gallery. Description: Milt Bullard teaches general beginning drawing skills for adults, ages 18 and up. $40. Students must bring their own sketch pad and ink pens, pencils or other drawing materials.

No Sew Tote Bag Class

When: Sat, April 17, 9am – 1pm. Where: Mistlin Gallery Description: All materials provided to make a tote or handbag from jeans and pieces of fabric. $40/1 session

Drawing/Painting class

When Thu, April 22 – May 27, 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Where: Mistlin Gallery Description: Lori diMuro teaches drawing and painting for ages 18 and up. 6 week session for $120. Materials list will be provided.

Painted Bird Feeder class

When: Sat, April 24, 9am – 12pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Description Petra Borchert teaches Painted Glass Bottle Bird Feeders. All ages welcome (students under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult) Acrylic painting on recycled glass bottles. Bird Food NOT included. $15 per person 3 hour session. All supplies will be included.

Intermediate Drawing Class

When: Sat, April 24, 12pm – 4pm or Sat., July 17, 12pm – 4pm. Where: Mistlin Gallery. Ages 18 and up. A materials list will be provided. Student chooses oil or acrylic paint. Students can take one or more classes at $20 for one 2 hour session.

Monumental Face Drawings

When Fri, June 11, 2010, 6:30pm – 9:30pm AND Saturday, June 12 10am – 2pm. Where: Mistlin Gallery Description: Don Hall is the instructor and can be contacted at mail@donhallworks.com. Bring a photo and will use a grid to enlarge to a finished conte crayon product. For those with basic drawing skills up through experienced artists. $70 plus $10 materials fee and bring 18" to 3 foot ruler (and a high quality black-and-white 5-by-7 or larger photograph). Instructor will have quality photos for those that do not have their own.

Calligraphy class

When: Thu, June 17, 2010, 6:30pm – 7:30pm. Where: Mistlin Gallery. Description: BettyJean Reynolds teaches adult watercolor calligraphy. $20 for session, materials provided. Students will go home with a matted parchment.

Potter's Demonstration Workshop

When Sat, September 4, 2010, 10am – 5pm. Where: Mistlin Gallery. Description: San Joaquin Potter's Guild, "Hands In Clay" show, sale and workshop.

Mommy/Daddy & Me Art Class* Wednesdays, March 3 – March 24, 11am – 12pm or Mondays, July 12 – August 2, 11am - 12pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Classroom Ages 3-5 years Adults will assist their child in experiencing the fun of painting and creating with color. Each week will be a different adventure. An adult must accompany child. Supplies are furnished. 4 sessions/$40.

My First Art Class***

Wednesdays, March 3 - April 7, 3:30pm – 4:30pm or Wednesdays, July 7 – August 11, 4:00pm – 5:00pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Classroom Ages 5-7 years Children will experience the fun of painting by creating new colors and learning to handle paints and brushes. New lessons taught at each session. Supplies are furnished. 6 sessions/$60.

The Science of Art***

Wednesday, March 17, 3:30pm – 4:30pm or Tuesday, July 13, 3:30pm - 4:30pm or Tuesday, July 20, 3:30pm – 4:30pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Ages 8-13 years What do science and art have in common? In this fun, hands-on workshop, students will learn about optical illusions and try to draw their own. They will also learn how colors combine both scientifically and artistically. 1 session/$20.

Fun with Painting***

Thursdays, March 11 - April 1, 3:30pm – 4:30pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Classroom Ages 14-17 years Students will concentrate on painting with different media, techniques and subject matter. Supplies are furnished. 4 sessions/$40.

KID'S DAY

Saturday, May 8, 10:00am – 12:30pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Ages 6-8 years Cheryl Brown will teach kids to create in air dry clay and experiment with paint. 1 session/$15 plus $5 materials fee.

Children's Art Camp

Tuesdays and Thursdays June 15 , 17, 27 and July 1, 10am – 12pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Ages 6-8 years CCAA instructors teach creative expression with fun materials including clay, chalk, printmaking and more. Children will bring home a portfolio to keep their own artworks. 4 sessions/$80 plus $15 materials fee.


Older Youth Art Camp

Monday, Wednesday and Fridays June 21, 23, and 25, 10am – 2pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Ages 9 years and up CCAA instructors will teach creative expression in various media including clay, painting, collage and more. Children will bring home their own portfolio of artwork. 3 sessions/$120 plus $20 materials fee.

Young Drawers Class

Tuesdays and Thursdays July 13, 15, 27 and 29, 10am – 11am Where: Mistlin Gallery Ages 5-8 years Cheryl Brown will teach children ages 5 to 8 to draw beyond the ordinary, plus the fun of drawing people in motion, faces with expression, imaginary creatures and more. Media: pencil and chalk. 6 sessions /$50 plus a $5 materials fee.

Older Children's Drawing Class

Tuesdays and Thursdays July 13, 15, 27 and 29, 11am – Noon Where: Mistlin Gallery Ages 9-13 years Cheryl Brown will teach skills with cartoonish and imaginative drawing, plus realistic drawing and creating perspective. 6 sessions/$50 plus $5 materials fee.


Beginning Drawing and Painting Class***

Mondays and Wednesdays July 12 – July 21, 2pm – 3pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Ages 9-12 years Learn to see as a young artist. Students will draw in black and white and paint in color. Basic fundamentals of drawing and painting techniques will be taught. Bring your own 9” x 12” drawing pad. Other supplies will be furnished. 4 sessions/$45.

Intermediate Drawing and Painting Class***

Mondays and Wednesdays July 26 – August 4, 2pm – 3pm Where : Mistlin Gallery Ages 9-12 years Students will learn to draw and paint with emotion. This class is designed for students who have completed Beginning Drawing and Painting and are ready for more advanced techniques. Bring your own 11” x 14” drawing pad. Other supplies will be furnished. 4 sessions for $45.

Kid's Day

Thursday, August 5, 10am – 2pm Where: Mistlin Gallery Ages 8-12 years Last chance for an artistic fling before school starts. Create with Cheryl Brown using paint, chalk pastels, and more. Come dressed to get messy and bring a lunch and drink. 1 session/$25 plus $5 materials fee.

    The workshop begins the moment you sign up! Upon registration, you will be sent a discovery assignment to begin your research and gathering of tools. The day of the work¬shop we will come together to unravel our mystery, altering and reconstructing a found book to create a personal revelation.
    No art or writing experience is necessary, only the courage to express yourself!

Claire Oak’s water color class initially began 20 years ago, with Claire teaching Art for Adults and Fashion Illustration at San Joaquin Delta College.  Following her time at Delta College, Claire taught art classes at Gallery Iona in Lincoln Center, where many of her present students began their first course. 

The current, ongoing class is now located at The Artists Co-Op on Grand Canal Boulevard in Stockton and has been in this location for 10 years.  The class meets weekly on Thursday afternoons.

Demonstration Artist - Thursday, March 11 7-9 pm


Joe Draegert was born in Chariton, Iowa.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Kansas City Art Institute, in Kansas City, Missouri in 1968 and received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of California at Davis, California in 1970.

A recipient of numerous awards, including a full fellowship to the Yale Summer School for the Arts in 1967, Mr. Draegert received the Rome Prize in Painting in 1978 and spent one year at the American Academy in Rome.  After spending eleven years teaching at Shasta College in Redding, California, he left his position to explore his creative life.

Currently, he spends his days painting in his Northern California studio, and makes frequent trips with his wife, Elizabeth, to Italy where he continues to be inspired by its history, landscape, and people.

He is represented by Erickson Fine Art Gallery, Healdsburg, CA.

Salvatore Salerno is retired from having taught Drama and English at Davis High School for twenty-one years.  He has an M.F.A. from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he was awarded The Academy of American Poets University Prize.  Some of his poems have been published in over fifty magazines and anthologies, including Song of the San Joaquin, Quercus Review, Descant, Poem, and The Greensboro Review.  Four of his plays have been produced at community theatres and Davis High.  He writes a monthly column on birding in Valley Habitat. His self-published Sunleaf has been called by poet Donald Jones “a generous helping of 103 poems, served with lively invention and variety…written in indelible ink.”

Central California Art Association is seeking submissions for "Almond Blossom Time" member show at The Mistlin Gallery from February 25 to April 22, 2010.  
Members can rent a grid for $20 or a pedestal for $10.

Announcing the Young Masters Art Show 2010 WINNERS

The Central California Art Association is hosting the Young Masters Art Show for children age one to eighteen for the at the Mistlin Gallery.  The show will open for Third Thursday Art Walk on February 17 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.   Categories are in painting, drawing and sculpture and are grouped by age. The Awards ceremony will end the show Sunday,  Feb 21 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.    http://youngmastersart.org
