March is Membership Month
Among other reasons, memberships are important to the museum so we can show potential benefactors that we have broad-based community support. The good news is, within 30 miles of downtown Modesto live about 1.2 million people, and we have 56 members. The potential for growth is huge. Our grant proposals are that much stronger when we can show an even larger number of members from the community. In a way, your membership counts twice. Please join the museum. You can be a museum member for as little as $5 and up to $75 a year. You decide what you would like to offer.  Click here for a membership form, or see the museum web site and click Memberships, for more details.
Art Safari Suggestion
On your next trip to Los Angeles, go on an art safari or art pilgrimage to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and see Chris Burden's Urban Light. More than 200 old city street lights have been turned into an outdoor installation. You can visit for free.
Pony Express Exhibit Opens in April
The 150th anniversary mail art exhibition for the Pony Express opens in April at the Anderson Gallery, 1323 J Street, in downtown Modesto. Thursday, April 15 from 6 to 9 pm, is the reception for the show. Come and bring your friends. Watch for details on the museum web site.
1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse: Remake, Restyle, Recycle, Renew
Everyone is talking green these days and anyone who looks through this book by Garth Johnson will be inspired to re-use old stuff in creative green ways. The book contains an amazing collection of inventive arts and crafts that reuse, restyle, and renew paper, cloth, metal, plastic, and just about everything else you can think of. The works range from clever simple pieces of personal adornment to unusual pieces of furniture and large-scale installations. It is hard to stop looking at this book, it's a delight. From Quarry Books, 2009, $25.00.
Modesto International Architecture Festival: 21-23 October 2010
Save the dates for the Modesto International Architecture Festival, three days of exciting events including movies, tours, talks, and exhibits. Find full details on the festival web site.
